_Programs and Services: Primary Health Care: Telehealth

Telehealth logoTelehealth Saskatchewan is a Saskatchewan Health initiative to link urban and rural areas around the province. Using live, two-way videoconferencing, health care providers can apply the latest tele-diagnostic instruments, including digital stethoscopes, patient examination cameras, and digital imaging, to enable a remote patient to ‘visit’ an out-of-town health care provider from their home community rather than having to travel.

Telehealth’s vision is to provide optimal health care for anyone, anywhere, anytime: enabled by information and communication technology. Their mission is to improve the quality and accessibility of health services and health information for all people in our province. Telehealth is partnered with all twelve health regional authorities within Saskatchewan , Saskatchewan Health, and Health Canada .

Patients that are living in remote or rural areas are capable of being connected to healthcare by using Telehealth. By using advanced two-way videoconferencing equipment, Telehealth Saskatchewan provides access to specialized medical care for these patients. During a Telehealth appointment, a person is able to see, hear and talk to their health care provider. This technology allows health professionals from almost anywhere can see and examine patients just as if they were in the same room.
