Disruptions of Services

Please remember to dial 9-1-1 if faced with a medical emergency.

A 'Temporary Disruption of Services' is initiated by the Cypress Health Region when there are insufficient numbers of health care professionals available to provide specific health services at a facility.  Examples of when a temporary disruption is declared:

  • Unavailability of physician on-call services
  • Unavailability of registered nursing coverage
  • Unavailability of diagnostic imaging (that is, lab and x-ray) staff coverage

Although there are occasions where a temporary disruption is necessary due to unavailability of physicians or staff, the health region attempts to reduce the number of occasions and the length of the disruption as much as possible.

Contingency plans are put in place and a variety of stakeholders are made aware, including local EMS crews,

9-1-1 dispatch, HealthLine, and neighboring health facilities.

This page has been developed to increase the public awareness of any facilities that are under a temporary disruption of services, and those that have been identified as possibly requiring a temporary disruption of services in the near future.

A temporary disruption of services can change at any time.  Please check back to this page often for the most up to date information.

  • The red traffic light represents a facility that is under a temporary disruption of services.
  • The yellow traffic light represents a facility that may be under a temporary disruption of services in the near future, however, Cypress Health Region staff members are working hard to try to fill the coverages to avoid a temporary disruption.  Our staff will continue to search all options for coverage until all options have been exhausted.
  • The green traffic light represents all other facilities that are operating under normal conditions.

All acute care services offered at the Maple Creek Hospital returned to normal operations at 7:00pm on Monday, March 1st.  As a result, the assessment centre that was temporarily setup at the Pacific Avenue Medical Clinic is no longer operating.

Community Health Services and Home Care Services have been re-located to their regular office space at the Hospital.

Bersch and Associates Ltd. was brought in to perform the air quality testing in the Maple Creek Hospital.  These reports have now been released and are available for viewing.

UPDATE - March 3 @ 3:15pm:

An additional Air Monitoring Bulletin was released on Wednesday, March 3.  At this time the health region also announced that:

  • An abatement company has been at the Hospital site and has completed their processes necessary to secure and remove the identified asbestos-related materials from the fan/maintenance room.  Their on-site work also included ensuring that any exposed asbestos sites within that room were appropriately and safely contained.
  • The air quality testing company was also on-site during the abatement processes.  They ran a series of testing throughout the building as the abatement was occurring to ensure that asbestos articles did not enter the building’s air environment.  The region has received a report from this company (below) that has confirmed the environment is safe for occupancy.
  • The Occupational Health & Safety Committee is continuing their formal investigation into the quality improvement processes that may be identified for future implementation.
